How to Get a Transcript of a Slack Huddle
Huddles are the fastest way to talk in Slack and the easiest thing to lose. What Slack keeps depends on the plan and on an admin toggle, and on the lower tiers it keeps nothing at all.
A huddle starts with one click, which is the point of it, and ends with nothing written down, which is the problem with it. What Slack keeps depends entirely on your workspace plan and on a setting an admin controls.
What Slack keeps, by plan
Free. Nothing. There is no recording, no transcript and no AI notes. When the huddle ends, the conversation is gone.
Pro. With Slack AI enabled, Slack can generate notes and a summary after a huddle ends. There is no recording, so there is no audio to go back to and no full transcript, only the generated notes.
Business+ and Enterprise Grid. If an admin has enabled it, a Record button appears inside the huddle. When the huddle closes, Slack posts a clip into the channel thread with a downloadable M4A file. AI notes are also available with Slack AI.
Two things follow from that. On the lower plans there is no artefact at all, and even on the higher ones recording is off unless someone deliberately turned it on. A huddle that mattered is usually discovered to have mattered afterwards, which is exactly when neither of those is true.
Why huddles are the worst case for meeting bots
Almost every meeting assistant works by sending a participant into the call, and that participant is invited through a calendar entry with a meeting link. A huddle has neither. It starts in a channel or a direct message with a click, it has no link to hand to a bot, and it is over in eleven minutes.
This is why the tools listed on comparison pages as supporting "Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams" quietly do not support huddles. There is nothing for them to join.

Does Slack record huddles automatically? No. Recording exists only on Business+ and Enterprise Grid, only if an admin has enabled it, and only when someone presses Record.
Can I get a transcript on the Free plan? Not from Slack. Nothing is retained. Recording the audio on your own device is the only route.
