A recording widget that stays on top of your meeting
The meeting is in one window, the recording in another. The new recording widget brings the controls to where you are: a small capsule on top of every app, with the time, your level, a Moment button and Stop.
You are presenting in Teams, the meeting app fills the screen, and somewhere behind it Kalima is recording. Is it still running? Did the microphone drop out? Was that the moment you meant to mark? Until now, every one of those questions meant switching windows in the middle of a call.
The Kalima desktop app now has a recording widget. While a recording runs, a small capsule floats on top of every app, including your meeting. It shows the Kalima dove, the running time and a quiet level line, so a glance tells you that sound is coming in.
Three buttons when you need them
The capsule stays small until you move the pointer over it. Then three buttons appear:
- Moment captures the current point of the recording. Later you find it again in the Moments tab, with the passage it belongs to.
- End recording stops and saves the recording.
- Expand opens the full panel.
Small icons on the capsule tell you when something needs your attention: the microphone or the computer audio is muted, the connection is down, or your recording time is running low. If the network drops, Kalima keeps recording on your computer and transcribes the gap once it is back, and the panel says so in plain words.
Name it and file it while it runs
Most recordings end up in the wrong place for a simple reason: nobody files them during the meeting, and afterwards nobody remembers. The expanded panel fixes the moment, not the cleanup.
- Name: click the name and type one. Enter saves. Or leave it empty and Kalima names the session from its transcript after the recording.
- Filed in: shows the workspace and project the recording goes to. Click it and a small window opens with your workspaces, their projects, a search field and a New project button. Apply takes effect right away, and the recording keeps running.
- Moments: a short timeline of the moments you captured so far.
At the bottom of the panel sits the switch for Privacy Mode, which keeps every Kalima window, the widget included, out of your screen share.
It goes where you put it
Drag the widget anywhere. Near a corner, or near the middle of the top or bottom edge, it snaps into place, and Kalima remembers the spot for each screen. Push it past the left or right edge and it tucks away as a slim tab. A click brings it back.
If you would rather not see it for one recording, Hide for this recording puts it away until the recording ends. Show widget in the Studio header, or Show recording widget in the tray menu, brings it back.
After the stop
When the recording is saved, the widget shows the result for a moment: the session name, and buttons to open the transcript, look at the moments, or change where it is filed. It closes on its own after 20 seconds.
Set it up the way you work
Everything lives under Settings › Recording widget in the desktop app:
| Setting | Choices |
|---|---|
| Show the recording widget | On or off |
| When to show it | Always while recording, or only when Kalima is in the background |
| When a recording starts | Collapsed (time and level) or expanded (the full panel) |
| Appearance | Always dark, or match Kalima |
| Show the result after stopping | On or off |
The dark default is deliberate: most meeting apps are light, and a light capsule disappears against them.
Who it helps most
- People who present. You keep the meeting app full screen and still see that the recording is alive.
- Back-to-back days. With meeting detection starting recordings for you, the widget is where you check, name and file them without leaving the call.
- Anyone who marks moments. One click on the capsule is faster than any shortcut you have to remember.
The widget is part of the Kalima desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, on every plan. Download the desktop app, start a recording, and switch to your meeting. The full reference is in the Recording Widget guide.

Google Meet in the browser, detected: the Kalima extension
The Kalima desktop app has long noticed when a Teams call starts. Calls in a browser tab were invisible to it. The new Kalima extension closes that gap for Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, Webex, Jitsi and Whereby.

Your Company Blocked AI Notetakers. What You Can and Cannot Do Next
A blocked notetaker is either a switched-off transcription policy, a lobby that refused a bot, or a network that refuses the service itself. Only one of those is about something joining your call, and only one is a question you can answer without asking somebody first.
