How to Get a Transcript of a Zoom Webinar You Attended
Ask the organiser for transcript access first. If you receive an authorised recording without text, you can transcribe the file separately.
To get a Zoom webinar transcript, ask the organiser for a shared cloud recording with transcript access or for the transcript file. If you receive a recording you are authorised to process, you can transcribe that file in Kalima.
What controls access to a webinar transcript
The organiser controls sharing. Zoom's recording-sharing settings can make an available transcript visible to viewers. Ask for that access when requesting the recording.
Live captions and a recording transcript are different. Seeing subtitles during the event does not by itself tell you whether a transcript file will be available afterwards.
Cloud transcription has prerequisites. Zoom documents an eligible account with cloud recording and audio transcription enabled. The transcript may finish processing after the video. Its audio-transcription guide describes the VTT file and viewing options.

Transcribing with the organiser's permission

Session length matters for this one: a webinar often runs longer than an hour, so the free plan's 45-minute session cap will cut it short. Plus allows three-hour sessions and Pro allows five.
Questions people ask
Can the organiser send me a transcript file? Zoom creates cloud audio transcripts as VTT files. Ask the organiser for a copy.
Does Kalima join the webinar? Kalima captures audio on your device and does not join Zoom as a participant. You still need the required permission to record and transcribe; device-side capture does not grant it.
What should I check before transcribing? Ask the organiser whether you may record, transcribe and reuse the event, and check the webinar's terms. Permission to attend is not a reliable basis for assuming permission to publish a transcript.
What if I only have the replay video? Upload it. Kalima transcribes mp4, mov, webm and the common audio formats, up to five hours per file on the Pro plan.
