Privacy & Stealth Mode
Hide the Kalima window from screen sharing and keep recordings on your device.
The Kalima desktop app is built so you can keep your live transcript, notes, and recordings to yourself, even while you are sharing your screen. Stealth Mode hides the Kalima window from screen shares and screenshots, and your screen recordings stay on your own computer.
What Stealth Mode does
When Stealth Mode is on, Kalima marks its window as content-protected. That means screen-sharing tools, screen recorders, and screenshot tools cannot capture it. Apps like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Discord show a black rectangle where the Kalima window would be, while you still see the window normally on your own display.
This lets you keep your live transcript or notes open and readable to yourself during a presentation, without revealing them to everyone else in the call.
Stealth Mode is about your own screen-share privacy. It controls whether other meeting participants can see the Kalima window when you share your screen. It does not change who can access a recorded session inside Kalima.
When to use it
Stealth Mode is useful in a few common situations. During live presentations, you can read your live transcript or speaker notes while sharing slides, without the audience seeing them. On recorded calls, it keeps Kalima out of the saved video. It also helps with accessibility, letting you follow captions of a conversation privately while you present or collaborate.
Turn on Stealth Mode
Stealth Mode is off by default. You can switch it on whenever you need it.
Do a quick test share before your meeting: start a screen share in your meeting app (or a screen recorder) and confirm the Kalima window appears as a black rectangle there while you still see it normally.
Where it works best
Hiding a window from screen capture depends on your operating system, so the behavior can differ across platforms.
- Most reliable on Windows, where Kalima is hidden consistently from screen shares, recordings, and screenshots.
- On other systems, behavior may vary depending on the screen-sharing or screenshot tool in use.
Treat Stealth Mode as a privacy convenience, not a guarantee against every capture method. For genuinely sensitive content, also avoid sharing your full screen, and share a single application window instead.
Your recordings stay on your device
Screen and video recordings made with the desktop app are saved as local files in a recordings folder on your own computer. They are not automatically uploaded to the cloud. You can:
- Browse your recordings inside Kalima.
- Open the recordings folder directly.
- Play recordings back inside the app.
- Delete recordings you no longer need.
- Change the storage folder to a location you prefer.
Because screen and video recordings live locally, they do not count toward your cloud storage limit. Your transcripts and session data are still synced to your Kalima account as usual.
