Ask questions about a transcript and get answers grounded only in that session.
AI Chat lets you talk to your transcript. Instead of scrolling through a long recording to find what you need, you ask a direct question and get a written answer drawn straight from that session. It is the fastest way to pull a number, a name, a decision, or a follow-up out of a conversation you already captured.
What AI Chat does
AI Chat is a conversational question-and-answer tool that lives in the Studio, next to your transcript. Every answer is based only on the current session's transcript, so you can trust that what comes back was actually said in that recording. Answers are written in your account's display language, even when the transcript is in another language, and they arrive progressively so you see the reply forming rather than waiting on a spinner.
Use it to:
- Find a specific number, name, or detail that was mentioned.
- Ask who was responsible for a task or owns a follow-up.
- Surface the decisions or risks from a discussion.
- Get a quick answer without generating a full summary.
AI Chat answers are grounded in the transcript and nothing else. If the answer is not in the recording, the assistant tells you it does not know rather than guessing. That makes it safe to rely on for "what was actually said" questions.
How to start a conversation
When the chat is empty, Kalima offers a few starter prompts to get you going, for example asking about the main topics, the decisions made, the action items, or who said what. Tap one to begin, or write your own.
Example questions to ask
- "What did they decide about pricing?"
- "Who owns the launch?"
- "Summarize the risks that came up."
- "What action items were assigned, and to whom?"
- "Did anyone mention a deadline?"
Follow-up questions stay in the same thread, so you can refine your line of inquiry. Ask a broad question first, then drill into the specifics.
Chat history is saved per session
Your conversation is saved automatically and reloaded when you reopen the session, so you can pick up an analysis exactly where you left off. When you want a clean slate, use the clear / new-conversation action in the Chat tab to wipe the history and start fresh.
Clearing a conversation is permanent. Once you start a new conversation, the previous questions and answers cannot be recovered.
Chat in shared sessions
If you share a session, or run a live viewer broadcast, the people you grant access to can use AI Chat on that transcript too. Each person's chat history is private to them: two people opening the same shared session each have their own separate conversation and never see each other's questions or answers.
Chat usage is billed to the account making the requests. When you open a session shared with you and ask questions, those messages count against your own AI chat allowance.
What AI Chat will and won't answer
AI Chat is deliberately focused on the session in front of you. Knowing its boundaries helps you get useful answers quickly.
Chat answers questions about the current transcript only. When there is no connection to the recording, it declines unrelated requests such as writing code, doing homework, drafting essays, or fetching news or weather. Rephrase your question to be about the session content and it will respond.
If something was never said in the recording, the assistant says it does not know instead of inventing an answer. This is by design and is what keeps chat trustworthy.
Chat blocks attempts to manipulate or change how it behaves. It will keep answering only about the transcript, in your account's language.
A chat keeps the most recent part of the conversation in context, roughly the last 49 messages. Older turns beyond that are dropped from context, so for a fresh, focused analysis it can help to start a new conversation.
Usage and limits
Each message you send counts against your plan's weekly AI chat allowance. All AI tools also share a short-term per-user rate limit, so if you fire many AI actions in quick succession you may be briefly asked to wait a moment before trying again.
A few things to know:
- AI Chat requires a verified email. Confirm your address before you can use it. See Create your account.
- The number of chat messages per week varies by plan; higher plans include far more, and Enterprise is unlimited.
- Weekly allowances reset every Monday (00:00 UTC). When you reach your limit, you can wait for the reset or upgrade for a higher allowance.

A summary gives you a structured overview of the whole session at once. Chat is interactive: you ask targeted questions and get focused answers. Use a summary to brief yourself, and chat to dig into specifics.
