The Transcript Editor
Read, search, filter, and tidy your transcript in the Studio.
The transcript is the heart of every Kalima session, and the Studio gives you a calm, focused place to read and refine it. This page covers how to control the way your transcript is displayed, find and copy what you need, follow live text as it arrives, and clean up a session you want to start over.
Display layout
When a session has a translation, you can choose how the original and translated text sit next to each other. The layout toggle is the leftmost button on the transcript toolbar, and each click switches between the two modes.
Shows the original text and its translation side by side in two columns. This is ideal for comparing the two languages line for line.
Split view is only meaningful when a translation exists. If your session has no translation, stick with the standard single-language reading view and the layout toggle has nothing extra to show.
Display filter: All, Original, or Translation
A three-button segmented control on the transcript toolbar lets you decide exactly which text appears:
- All shows both the original (transcribed) text and the translation together.
- Original shows only the source-language transcript.
- Translation shows only the translated output.
This is the fastest way to focus on a single language without the other one in the way, for example when you only need the translated text to share with an international audience. The Translation option is only useful once a session has translations.
Layout and filter are about how you read the transcript on screen. When you export, you choose the original or translation track separately in the Export dialog. See Exporting transcripts.
Reading comfortably
Font size
Click the text-size button (marked with an A) in the transcript toolbar to open a slider. Drag it anywhere between 12 px and 64 px to make the transcript as large or as compact as you like. Larger text is great for presenting or for low-vision reading; smaller text fits more of the conversation on screen at once. Your chosen size is remembered for next time.
Fullscreen mode
The fullscreen (expand) button on the right of the toolbar grows the transcript to fill your whole screen for distraction-free reading or for showing a live transcript to a room. Press the fullscreen button again, or simply press ESC, to return to the normal view.
Your font size and other display preferences are saved in this browser, not in your account, so they will not follow you to another device or browser. Just set them again the first time you open the Studio somewhere new.
Finding and copying text
You can select transcript text with your cursor and copy it exactly as you would anywhere else, which makes it easy to pull a quote into an email, your notes, or a chat message.
The Studio's search also highlights every word that matches your search term across the transcript, so you can quickly locate where a name, topic, or phrase was mentioned in a long recording. To search across all of your sessions at once, including their transcripts and translations, use the global search described in Navigating Kalima.
If audio is loaded for the session, you can click any word to jump playback straight to that moment, and the spoken word lights up karaoke-style as it plays. That makes reading and listening a single, connected experience. See Playback & karaoke.
Following a live transcript
While you are recording, the transcript stays pinned to the newest text and scrolls automatically as words arrive, so you always see the latest of what was said.
Even very long meetings and uploads stay fast and responsive while you scroll, so reviewing a multi-hour recording feels just as smooth as a short one.
Recovered segments and gaps
If your connection drops or recording is interrupted, Kalima keeps going and reconstructs the missed audio when you reconnect. Segments that were rebuilt this way show a Recovered badge with a timestamp, and larger missing stretches appear as a placeholder block so you can clearly see where content was reconstructed. Tidying up your transcript
The transcript editor pairs with two cleanup tools you will use often:
- Mark words for correction. Select a word or phrase, right-click, and tag it with a category such as Wrong word, Name / term, Grammar, Punctuation, Filler / remove, or Note. The mark stays anchored to the exact words even as live text keeps growing, and you resolve all your marks later in the AutoCorrect+ panel. See AutoCorrect+.
- Rename speakers. Replace generic Speaker 1, Speaker 2 labels with real names that then appear everywhere, including your exports. See Speakers & diarization.
Clearing a transcript
If you want to start a session over from scratch, the clear (trash) button in the transcript toolbar removes every segment in the session at once. The session itself is kept, so you can simply record again.
Clearing the transcript is permanent and there is no undo. You will be asked to confirm before anything is deleted, and the button is disabled when there is nothing to clear. Use it only when you are sure you want to discard the current take.
